Dedicated Private Networks
For a highly secure environment, Memset offers a private vLAN between its dedicated or virtual servers and a Cross Site Private Network to connect servers located across our different data centres.

A Memset vLAN allows you to connect multiple servers together so that they are able to securely communicate with one another via a private network.
- MonitoringAll dedicated vLANs are monitored by Memset
- BandwidthNo bandwidth charges for traffic that stays on the vLAN
- SecureDedicated vLANs provide superior network security
- Free trafficFree server-to-server traffic on the private vLAN
- ResponsiveLow latency physical switch based vLAN
- Fast1 Gbps Private Network (per server)
A vLAN is a private network between Miniserver VM®s or Fully Dedicated Servers in your account, facilitating entirely secure communications within your infrastructure. This allows the creation of a private network within the overall network, providing greater security, privacy and performance.
Cross Site Private Network
Instead of using your bandwidth quota to connect servers over the Internet, Memset's Cross Site Private Network will allow you to do this at a fixed cost with a reliable, secure, low-latency connection with guaranteed quality of service.
- Site to siteConnect servers located in different Memset data centres
- PrivateConnect over a fast private link
- SecureServers are connected without the need to transit the internet
- ReliableBuilt on Memset’s Redundant Wide Area Network (WAN)
- GuaranteedReceive a minimum bandwidth allowance
- Support24/7/365 UK based support
By using a cross site private network to connect your servers located in Memset’s various data centres, Memset will provide a bridge to connect a vLAN at both data centres creating one logical private network spanning geographically separate locations. You'll therefore be able to connect servers without the need to transit the Internet – enabling both servers to communicate securely with one another.
Improved Network Performance
Memset’s private vLAN allows you to secure and share data within an isolated environment. Public traffic uses the public side of the network, whilst private server-to-server traffic is always internal to Memset’s network, enabling you to maximise the performance of your dedicated servers.
The vLAN helps to segregate public from private traffic so that public parties cannot access the server. You can allow public access to the web servers and disable public access to the servers where you have mission critical data, such as database servers.
Improved Response Times
Having private server-to-server traffic routed through your vLAN increases network performance and reduces latency.
The Cross Site Private Network is built upon Memset's redundant Wide Area Network (WAN). This means that if any of the WAN links fail, the Cross Site Private Network will continue operating at full capacity, but possibly with slightly higher latency.
Cross Site Private Network comes with a maximum and minimum bandwidth allowance. The maximum bandwidth allowance is the most bandwidth you can get from the link. However this is contended with other users of the link. You are guaranteed to get the minimum bandwidth regardless of what other users are doing. This makes for a cost effective way of getting a larger bandwidth allowance.

Frequently asked questions
What is a vLAN?
A vLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) is a private network between Miniserver VM®s or Fully Dedicated Servers in your account, facilitating entirely secure communications within your infrastructure. This is included free with Performance Patrol™ and for customers with a fully dedicated server.
For further details, please view the vLAN documentation.
What Is A Cross-Site Private Network?
Memset's Cross Site Private Network gives you the ability to connect servers located in different data centres over a fast private link.
Customers are required to have a Virtual Local Area Network (vLAN) in two of Memset's data centres. Once you have selected the two vLANs that you wish to link, Memset will provide a bridge to connect those vLANs creating one logical private network spanning geographically separate locations. You'll therefore be able to connect servers without the need to transit the Internet.
Are there Network Zone Restrictions?
Currently vLANs are restricted to only one network zone, which means that all your servers in a vLAN will need to be in the same network zone. The available network zones are Dunsfold UK, Freemont USA and Reading UK.
How Do I Get a Free vLAN?
We provide a free vLAN with your first fully dedicated server and any Performance Patrol™. These will appear in your account once you have purchased the product. You can then view them via the services page.
If you require an additional vLAN, for example because you have two different isolated private networks, a small charge of $13.00 per month per extra vLAN is applicable.
Do I Need a vLAN?
You will need a vLAN if you want to configure multiple servers to create a private network between them.
How to Search for Available vLANs in a Memset Account
You can easily check if vLANs are available in your account by visiting the services page.
