Hardware

We use high quality PowerEdge servers offer a range of configurations to suit every need. To customise your server click on "Customise / buy" above, or call us to discuss your requirements.

Redundancy

As part of the service we keep hot-standby equipment ready in the datacentre to be used in the event of a major failure of any server. This means that if, for example, your server were to suffer a major hardware failure we would be able to swap the disks into a spare chassis and have the server up an running again very rapidly and with minimal disruption.

In addition to that, all our servers are equipped with RAID(1) disk mirroring which means that in the event of a hard disk failure (the most common component to fail) your server will just keep running, and our technicians will be alerted so that they can schedule a replacement at your earliest convenience.

Storage capacity

The servers shown above can house a maximum of two 750GByte disks in a RAID1 array. If you need more than 750GBtes of storage (and we do not allow non RAID systems, so that is the limit) then we have specialised specialised mass-storage server options as well with a capacity of up to 6,000GBytes of data in a highly resiliant RAID5 array.

Operating systems and control panel software

We offer Linux-based operating systems including Debian (our recommendation), Fedora Core at no extra charge. We also now offer RedHat Enterprise ES for an additional £19.00/month.
We also offer Windows 2003 server (standard edition) for an additional £30.00/month.

If you do not want to have to administer the server manually then we would strongly recommend a control panel to allow you to administer the server and setup web sites / email accounts via a Web based interface. Our recommended control panel is cPanel/WHM (optionally with Fantastico) which is best installed on Centos or Fedora Core, and costs an extra £25.00/month. If you require a Windows Server system we dont currently offer any control panel ourselves, but would recommend Plesk available from SWsoft.

What are they suitable for?

A fully dedicated server could be used to host resource-intensive and highly active web sites, host corporate email, or to resell and host thousands of web sites.
