Hardware

Redundancy
As part of the service we keep hot-standby equipment ready in the datacentre to be used in the event of a major failure of any server. This means that if, for example, your server were to suffer a major hardware failure we would be able to swap the disks into a spare chassis and have the server up an running again very rapidly and with minimal disruption.
In addition to that, all our servers are equipped with RAID, which means that in the event of a hard disk failure (the most common component to fail) your server will just keep running, and our technicians will be alerted so that they can schedule a replacement at your earliest convenience.
Storage capacity
The servers shown above can house a maximum of eight 4 Terabyte disks, providing a maximum of 24 TBytes (24,000 GBytes) of RAID6 storage. If you need more than 24 TBytes of storage then we have specialised mass-storage server options as well, with a capacity of up to 36 TBytes of data in a highly resilient RAID 6 array. Please take note, we do not provide non-RAID systems, with the minimum level for 2-disk machines being RAID 1 and the minimum for 6+ disk machines being RAID 6 (any two disks can fail without data loss).
Operating systems and control panel software
We offer Linux-based operating systems including
Debian (our recommendation), Ubuntu, and CentOS at no extra charge.
We also offer a choice of Microsoft Windows 2008 Server R2 Editions (Web, Standard and Enterprise), which cost from an additional
$25.00/month.
If you do not want to administer the server manually then we strongly recommend a control panel to allow you to administer the server and setup Web sites / email accounts via a Web-based interface. Our recommended control panel is cPanel/WHM, which costs an extra $41.00/month. We offer Fantastico for a further £15/month on our dedicated servers.
We provide a free Magento (e-commerce solution) installer tool with cPanel/WHM. If you would like more information or advice on Magento hosting please contact us.
We do not currently offer any control panel solutions for Windows, and do not recommend it for simple Web & email hosting requirements.
What are they suitable for?
A fully dedicated server could be used to host resource-intensive and highly active web sites, host corporate email, or to resell and host thousands of web sites.
If you think that you may not need the full resources of a completely dedicated server, then you should take a look at our cost effective Miniserver VM® range.
