Company Overview

Memset is a small, friendly, fast-growing, multi-award-winning company providing managed hosting and cloud services to businesses and government.

We're a naturally open-source leaning company, primarily very technical (hence demanding of our technology) and natively BYOD. Devices are heterogeneous, our approach one of smart people and automated systems. Our internal systems are often a proving ground for cutting-edge new approaches which will ultimately become the products of the future. We've been going a while, but aggressively pursue the start-up mentality to make sure we don't loose our edge.

This is an extremely friendly environment. You will be technically and professionally challenged but our family will be here to support you. We look after our own, not just with a solid benefits package, but with the culture around us as well.

Checks

As part of the recruitment process you will be required to complete personality profiling, aptitude tests as well as a standard DBS check (formerly CRB check) and Security Clearance (SC).

Corporate Infrastructure Manager

Corporate Infrastructure Manager required to create and run an internal IT and help desk team. The right person should be comfortable managing people, planning out to a 3 year horizon and getting their hands dirty on 1st-3rd line support. You will be the beating heart of the team that you will be responsible for building around you. We have a number of large scale projects and opportunities facing us and the Corporate Infrastructure Manager will be a key piece in spearheading their solution.

You will be responsible for creation of both the Internal Service Desk team and Corporate Infrastructure team, as well as managing, administering, securing and improving all internal corporate infrastructure, applications and hardware. This will be the kernel of a new function within our business.

Initially you will be responsible for everything to do with help desk and corporate infrastructure, from grand strategy, selection of new tools, deployment of exciting new systems and management of our current infrastructure, right down to first line hand-holding when a new starter's email doesn't quite work. In the medium term you would hire people to fill out a first-class internally facing team as we grow. Long term, we have a great many exciting business plans which will require new offices and mature systems that will support rapid and sustained growth.

You must be experienced in the management of an IT department and help desk, technically skilled and able to think big-picture, whilst still being hands-on, with a firm belief that the internal customer is paramount. The Corporate Infrastructure team will drive the caring and high-quality culture at the core of our business. You will be expected to lead.

Where you don't know the solution to a problem, you need to be the kind of person that cannot stop until it is solved and the people that rely on you are happy again. If this requires you learning a whole new system, all the better. You should already be security-literate to a certain extent. We prefer to build from open source than buy off the shelf, so you should be a broad technologist able to learn new platforms and skills (we're profligate with training). You should be able to strike the appropriate balance between JFDI and procedural approaches.

You will be responsible for looking after our family, so should be willing (if not eager) to muck in to help on the most trivial end-user problem as well as being comfortable discussing (and helping to define) long-term strategy with the Directors.

We're an ITIL-ish DevOps-style shop focussed on high-security products so you should be comfortable with this.

Particular areas of focus would include development and management of our internal I&AM systems, office servers and networks, BYOD management and end-user support.

"Nice-to-Have's":

  • Xen and Openstack
  • Linux, Windows, Mac devices, OS and software, including management via SCCM
  • Linux and Windows servers
  • Access control systems (LDAP, preferably 389/OpenLDAP and AD, Windows Domain systems, etc.)
  • Networking (VLAN management, firewalls, VPNs, etc.)
  • Telecoms (particularly Asterisk) and conferencing/audio-visual systems
  • Lots of proprietary Python / Django systems

Familiarity with all is desired, expertise preferred, but we believe strongly in hiring the right personality and training into the role technically, particularly for a position like this.

We have big ambitions for our SOC and require the right individual to help make it happen. This is not another COTS SIEM install, but a chance to build the entire function, including integrated technology, policies, processes and people anew.

We're a rapidly expanding, naturally open-source leaning company, primarily very technical (hence demanding of our technology) and focussed on security as our USP. We've been going a while but aggressively pursue the start-up mentality to make sure we don't loose our edge.

The SOC is a new function within the rapidly expanding Security and Business Services department, you would be it's first and most critical hire.

This is an extremely friendly environment. You will be technically and professionally challenged but our family will be here to support you. We look after our own, not just with a solid benefits package, but with the culture around us as well.

We're looking for someone who is very passionate about their role and about security in general. Cultural fit within the organisation will be important.
